Average mature size 1.5" canes x 26' tall Hardy to -15 F Aggressive in full sun Spectabilis is a bright yellow bamboo. It is one of the "crook-stem" bamboos with dramatic kinks in the lower portions of its culms. Its culms are rather rough, feeling like 80 grit sandpaper. Spectabilis is very attractive with its dark green sulcus set off by bright yellow. Its shoots come up in early spring and are often pink in color. They are fine eating if you have extras. Spectabilis is happy growing densely, and usually grows 20-30 feet tall. It's popular for screens and hedges. This species handles windy sites much better than 'Yellow Groove and is at the top of the list on cold hardiness. You will receive 2 foot tall fast growing plants. Plants are shipped semi bare root to save on Priority Mail shipping fee. Companion Plants: Goes well with Variegated Japanese Forest Grass, Zebra Grass, and 'Bloodgood' Japanese Maple.
